PERCUSSION – Solo

PERCUSSION

Marimba:

River Rapids (5/3/18) for marimba – 5’40”.  The work evokes a sense of quickly-moving water in a relatively shallow, small stream.  MIDI recording.

Vibraphone:

“Four Mallet Mystic”(1990) vibraphone solo – 3’00”.  This work was originally composed in 1990 and was notated by hand. In preparing the printed version, I was taken by the minimalistic quality of the score. The current version contains many revisions aimed at making the piece more varied and less predictable. MIDI recording.

Full Fathom Five (1983) for multiple percussion solo – 11’00”.  The work was commissioned by Mark Shelton and uses 22 instruments in ten movements whose titles come from “Ariel’s Song” in Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Mark Shelton

Live performance.  The work was premiered in September, 1983, at the Community Arts Center, Goldsboro, N.C. Additional performances at CCCC and at UNC-Greensboro.
